Great Crested Newt (Triturus cristatus) lay their eggs on leaves and then fold them. They then hatch into larvae with gills to enable the larvae to live under water without needing to surface for air. Great Crested Newts are fully protected under UK law in Britain by the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981.
