House sparrow (Passer domesticus) Juvenile waiting for parents to return who are foraging nearby. Leaving areas of garden to grow naturally along with the defined weeds save for the largest of weeds is important for many garden birds as they hold insects and other creatures which garden birds feed on. By encouraging the birds, it may prove helpful to controlling other garden pests as they forage the naturally growing part of a garden. The need for pesticides comes down and helps in supporting garden birds in an ever increasing world of paved gardens and driveways. The house sparrow is on the Red list of conservation concern in the UK due to breeding population decline, and it's main predators being cats and birds of prey.
