House sparrow (Passer domesticus) Juvenile sparrow plucking seeds from grass. North Berwick, Scotland, UK House sparrow (Passer domesticus) Juvenile sparrow perched on disused fishing pot, plucking seeds from grass. The pile of fishing pots left unused over time has allowed the grass and vegetation to grow around it, and is affording this juvenile sparrow a place to forage in an area which is otherwise cleared of all vegetation. Thoughts on the redundant fishing pot that would have been used to capture crab or lobsters to feed humans, is now providing structure to allow the sparrow to feed on the vegetation around the pots. The house sparrow is on the Red list of conservation concern in the UK due to breeding population decline, and it's main predators being cats and birds of prey.
