Black headed Gull (Chroicocephalus ridibundus) Begging for a meal, at the nest site. Possibly the female is the one begging a meal from the male. It seems to form part of the breeding ritual in addition to the habit where one will nest as the other brings in food. In this image the birds are away from the nesting site, and there is a lot of persistence by the begging bird for the partner to feed it. A thought might be this forms part of the process in getting ready to feed young. The sounds made are very similar to that made by young birds when begging a meal.
