Common Moorhen (Gallinula chloropus), In tree warming in late winter afternoon Sun. Severe winters are hard on birds, including Moorhens, but they are able to forage even where only a little water remains unfrozen. Feeding in short bursts, and then resting up. Moorhen is conserving energy by staying in the tree, but also it is a place where the sun will shine for longer, as the sun sets. Omnivorous, feeds while swimming or walking on floating vegetation or land, especially damp Meadows. Habitat, Marsh, reed bed, small lakes.
