Interestingly the bird seems to spot which reed can be uprooted whilst in flight it will the collect it whilst in flight. The Phragmities reed forms a lot of the basic structure of the nest. The area is situated at present on a shingle which is slowly carrying more vegetation as the site develops from the extensive management program. The Gulls are industrious and make use of all the materials available in as short a flight as possible from the nest. Common visitor to the garden.
