Black headed Gull (Chroicocephalus ridibundus) mating. It seems that when mating or copulation takes place between a pair at the nesting site, it triggers other birds to follow suit. Normally there seems to be some form of courtship or 'Chat up line' needed and in the absence of this the male seems to be less successful at persuading the female into mating.
