Common Frog (Rana temporaria) close up of spawn with first hatchling of a cluster eating away at the protective casing of another egg. They migrate upwards facing head first until they get to the top of the clutch of spawn. As the hatching increases so the egg casing begin to break down as well. Possibly to aid the first feeding of the newly hatched. It is illegal to sell common frogs under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981. Image taken in controlled environment.
